Mrs. Hattye L. (Polk) Sledge, 79, of Hickman, KY went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 2, 2016. She died at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY. Mrs. Hattye had worked as a sewing machine operator for the former HIS plant. She was a devoted member of the New Bryant’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was born in Jackson, TN on June 11, 1937 to the Frank and Johnny Mae Polk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Elmer Sledge, daughter, Donna Crumble and brother, Frank Polk and sisters, Betty Jean Polk and Molly Cross. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 10th at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Hickman. Elder Richard Holloway and Rev. Albert McCadney will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brandon Sledge, Ricky Polk, Charles Crumble, Jr. Teianka Gatewood , Cryalll Lloyd, Lyndale Gaskins, Greg Wilson, and Dewaun Gossett. Burial will follow in the Hickman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday. Mrs. Sledge is survived by her sons: Johnny Polk of Dallas, TX, Ricky Polk of Lexington, KY, Jimmie Sledge of Union City, TN and Ronell Sledge of Columbia, MO, daughters: Marnita Gatewood of Bowling Green, KY, Elisa Sledge of Louisville, KY, Georgia Cole of Statesboro, GA, step-daughter, Debra Cheirs of Hickman, KY, sisters: Birdie Denton of Shelbyville, IN, Gwen Polk Parrish of Indianapolis, IN, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Strong Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
