Charles R. "Jack" Austin passed away at his home in Fulton, KY on March 8, 2010 after a long illness.
He was a member of the Parkway Church of Christ in Fulton, KY and
was a seedsman and farmer. He served in the Korean War in the U.S.Army. He was co-owner of Austin Seed Company in Cayce, KY, owner of West Kentucky Seed Company in Cayce, KY and Austin Farm & Seed Company in Fulton, KY. He also was sales manager at Caudill Seed Co. in Louisville, KY for 5 years. He was assistant for the Secretary of Agriculture in Frankfort. He served as past chairman of West Kentucky
Water District and was a pilot and chairman of Fulton Airport for many years and remained a director until his death. He served as past president of Kentucky Seedman's Association in 1981-82 and was a Master Conservationist in 1984 & 85. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He was born in Hickman Co., KY on August 18, 1928. He had lived in this area all of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Gertrude Ann (Kimbro) Austin
of Fulton, KY, 2 daughters and sons in law Dr. Ann Austin Ayer (Robert) of Hartford, KY and Dr. Betty Jacqueline Austin (Tom W. Hines) of Paducah, KY, 2 grandchildren Adam Louis Ayer of Titusville, FL and Elizabeth Ann Ayer of Hartford, KY, a sister and brother in law Jane
Austin Burton (Joe) of Odessa, TX, 2 nephews David Burton of Odessa,TX and Paul Burton of Littlefield, TX, a niece Jennifer Burton Baxter of Houston,TX, and 3 great nieces and a great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marguerite (Hancock) and
Oscar Wales Austin.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm March 11, 2010 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel and interment will be in the Rock Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:30 - 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 10,2010.
