Dr. John Lloyd Jones, Jr. of Fulton,KY died Saturday, July 10 in Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton. He was 91.
Dr. Jones was born in Dresden, TN, on July 30,1918, the son of Dr. John Lloyd Jones and Cornelia Wayne Smith Jones. The family moved to Fulton in 1930. He attended Murray State and graduated from the University of
Tennessee College of Dentistry.
He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps during World War II, stationed at several posts in the U.S. and in Manilla, the Philippines, where he met and
married Kathleen Riesenberger Jones, an American Red Cross hospital worker, in 1946. They returned to Fulton where Dr. Jones joined his father
in a dental practice. His son, Dr. Alan W. Jones,continues that practice today.
Dr. Jones was active in the Boy Scouts of America, as a Scout and
Scouter. He was awarded the national Silver Beaver Award for his contributions to Scouting.
He also was active in civic affairs in Fulton, including serving on the city council and the planning and zoning commission. He was a strong supporter and advocate for the city's fire department and ambulance squad. He served as chairman of the Fulton Public Library.
He was a director of Burks Beverage of Dyersburg,TN, a Dr Pepper and Pepsi distributer.
Dr. Jones was a 61-year member of the Fulton Lion's Club, member
of the American Legion, was a Mason and member of Roberts Lodge Post #72, and he was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his five children and seven grandchildren: W. Steven Jones and wife Mary E. Bruns of Summit, NJ and their children, Matthew and Ellen; Lloyd R. Jones and wife Ellen K. Jones of Louisville, KY; J. David
Jones and wife Pyddney K. Jones of Lexington,KY and their children, Will and Katie; Christine R. Jones of Memphis,TN, and Alan W. Jones and wife Elizabeth R. Jones of Fulton and their children Shelby, Jack Henry and Caroline.
He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Polk of Monroe, LA and
several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen R. Jones; his sister Mary McRae of Memphis and his grandson, John Murphy Jones of Lexington and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, at Trinity Episcopal Church and burial will be in the Greenlea Cemetery in Fulton. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 13 at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel and on Wednesday from 8 to 10:30 a.m.
