Mr. James Harold Pewitt, Sr., age 88, of Fulton, KY died February 12, 2014 at the Parkway Regional Hospital.
He was a member of the South Fulton United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the former Palestine United Methodist Church in Fulton,KY. He was a retired farmer and a retired field agent for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture; was a U.S. Army Corps veteran who served in World War II, where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was also a member of the Roberts Lodge #172 in Fulton,was past president of the Fulton Co. Farm Bureau, was a Golden Circle member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Commander Club of the Disabled American Veterans, member of the Hugenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia of 1699 and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Sylviadeen (Moss) Pewitt, of Fulton, KY, whom he married Jan. 4, 1959, a daughter and son in law Donna & Rick Garland of Fulton, KY; six grandchildren: Nadia Sensing of Yuma, AZ, Mason Garland of Fulton, KY, Stephen Pewitt of Phoenix, AZ, Hunter Pewitt of Las Vegas, NV, Justin Garland and Josh Garland, both of Murray, KY; Three great grandchildren Taylor Garland and Jase Garland both of Murray, KY and Madison Garland of Fulton, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents Myrtis (Browder) and Harvey Mac Pewitt,two sons James Harold Pewitt, Jr. "Jay", who died Sept. 14, 1990 and Harry Nelson Pewitt, who died Feb. 28, 2004, a brother Harvey Mac Pewitt and a sister Edna Earl Broaderick.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with burial in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Friday and anytime Saturday until the funeral hour.
