James Earl Mercer

Mr. James Earl Mercer of South Fulton,TN died early Monday, October 5,2009 at his home.

He was a very active member of the First Methodist Church in Fulton,KY. He had retired from the Borg-Warner Corp. in Decatur, IL after 29 years of service as a tool & dye maker and quality control inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II, and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of Irvington High School (KY). He was also a member of the Bewelyville Masonic Lodge since 1946. He had lived in South Fulton for the past 18 years moving here from Decatur, IL.

He is survived by his wife Louise (Bruner) Mercer of South Fulton, TN, a daughter and son in law Janet & Mike Gossum of Fulton, KY and a son and daughter in law Kenneth and Pamela Mercer of Marietta, GA, and six grandchildren Sara Gossum of Keller, TX, Natalie Gossum of Nashville, TN, Michael Gossum of Columbia, MO, Kyle Mercer, Evan Mercer and Grant Mercer, all of Marietta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mary Eva
(Springgate) Mercer, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, October 7,2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Fulton, KY. Interment will be in the Obion Co. Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 pm on Tuesday. Mr. Mercer will lie in state at the First United Methodist Church from 10 am Wednesday until the funeral hour.
