Mr. James M. Yates, age 85, of Fulton, KY died February 16,2010 at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL.
He was of the Cumberland Presbyterian faith and was a retired farmer. He had also been a district representative for the former Arvin Electronics and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.
While serving his country he received the EAME Theater Ribbon w/ 2 Bronze Stars, good conduct medal and victory medal World War II. He also served with the 26th Field Hospital in Rhineland Central Europe. He was also a member of the VFW post in Union City, TN and was a graduate of U of L with an electronic engineering degree. He had lived
in this area most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Reh) Yates of Fulton, KY, whom he married February 28, 1953; a son Martin Yates of South Fulton, TN and
a daughter Gail Ruth Yates of Cadiz, KY; 2 grandchildren Houston Morse of Colorado Springs, CO and Drew Yates of South Fulton, TN and a sister Pauline Yates Gunter of Fulton,KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents Inez (Tyler) and Nathan Tubb Yates, a grandchild Geier Deatherage, 2 brothers Melvin Yates & Nathan Yates and a sister Marion Clark.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at the Obion Co. Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for services.
