Mr. Richard Cardwell of Franklin, TN, formerly of Fulton, KY, and Naples, FL, passed away on January 7, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. Richard Lewis Cardwell, Sr. was born in Fulton, April 29, 1941, to Frances Thompson Cardwell and Ernest B. Cardwell.
Richard graduated from Fulton High School in 1959 and then received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Murray State University in 1965. He was a Fellow and a life member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, a Paul Harris Fellow and a two-time past president of the Fulton Rotary Club, and a Kentucky Colonel.
While in Fulton, he was the former administrator at Haws Nursing Home, office manager at Ferry-Morse Seed Company, assisted Fulton Hospital and Bushart Clinic in acquiring Medicare qualifications, and district manager of First Federal Savings and Loan of Fulton, Hickman, and Clinton. He also served many years as Secretary of the Fulton Industrial Board and held various offices at Fulton First United Methodist Church.
Upon retirement, Richard moved to Naples, FL, where he served on the board of the Middleburg community of Stonebridge Country Club, chair of the Disaster Relief Committee of North Naples Church, and was a member of Bach Ensemble, the Troubadors, and Opera Chorus.
He is a lifelong member of the Methodist Church: Fulton First United Methodist Church, North Naples Church, and Franklin First United Methodist Church. He was always an active choir member.
Richard leaves his wife, Susan Bushart Cardwell, to whom he was married on August 3, 1963, son, Rick Cardwell (Jennifer) and daughter, Beth Foreman (Dan), all of Franklin, TN; four grandchildren, Rich Cardwell (Melissa) of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, MacKenzie Cardwell of Toms River, NJ, Erin Foreman of Lexington, KY, and Brenna Foreman of Memphis, TN. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Frank Cardwell, and brothers-in-law Bob Hyland and Tom Bushart.
