Sallie Mae "Mickey" Hopkins

Miss Sallie Mae Hopkins, age 80, of South Fulton,TN died April 9, 2010 at her home.

Mickey or Baby Sister as she was affectionally called a graduate of the Miles High School in Union City, TN and Western Kentucky Vocational School in Paducah, KY. She was a licensed barber and according to local historians, she was the first Afro-American female to be licensed as a Master Barber in Fulton and South Fulton. She was owner of the Hop's Cafe along with her parents and was a member of the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Fulton, KY where she served on the culinary crew. She had worked for the Obion Co. School System in the cafeteria for South Fulton schools and also for the
Parkway Regional Hospital in the Food Service Department. She
was a member of the Jacksonville Order of the Eastern Stars
Chapter #85 where she had received her 50 year service pin. She had served as Associated Matron, Martha and other appointed offices.
She served on the Board of Directors of the Ken-Tenn Homecoming Reunion Association and was a member of the Miles High School Alumni Association.

She is survived by her brother & sister in law Thomas G. "Baby Brother"and Mary Ruth Hopkins of St. Louis, MO, a sister in law Claudette Hopkins of Indiapolis, IN , and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lillie Bell (Smith) and James Wardell (J.W.) Hopkins, Sr., 3 brothers James W. Hopkins, Jr., Lester B. Hopkins,Smith A. Hopkins and a sister Constance B. Rogers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, April 13,2010 at the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Mears Street in Fulton,KY. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 11 am Tuesday until the funeral hour.
