Mr. Thomas Stephen "Steve" Ballance died August 13, 2011 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church for over fifty years where he served as a Deacon for many years. He graduated from Vandalia High School and James Millikin University with a B.S. degree in accounting in
1941. He was the owner and President of Jarvis Drilling, Inc. and was a prior partner of Somerset Oil, Inc. in Somerset, KY for over 30 years. He
was a life member of the Stephen Decatur Lodge and a member of the
Decatur Noon Kiwanis Club for over fifty years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 1/2 years, Juanita Ballance, a daughter Charlotte Ann Ballance, a son in law Michael J. Klimas, two granddaughters Katherine Cora Haussermann (Mrs. Adam) and Victoria Anne Ochoa (Mrs. Luis) and seven great grandchildren Cora & Sophie Haussermann, Thomas, Lillian, Alex, Christopher and Andrew Ochoa,
and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Tamar Rilla Matheny Ballance, his aunt Cora F. Ballance (who raised him after his mother died when he was an infant), a daughter Elizabeth Jane Klimas, a granddaughter
Rebecca Elizabeth Klimas, a brother Clifford Ballance and four sisters, Gladys Day, Thelma Wyant, Verneille Bricker and Genevieve Walker.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am Thursday, August 18 at the Rush Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation held at the funeral home and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church, Millikin University or Webster-Cantrell Hall, all in Decatur, IL.
